Our photos from our visit to the famous Notting Hill Carnival. The sun was shinning on us, though it did get a little too hot after a while. We stood in the sun for ages waiting for the parade. It was all worth it of course, when the parade did finally arrive.

London

Its been a shocking couple of days, first with the unexpected Olympic bid victory for London, who were very much the underdogs & then the bombings happening.

We are not affected as Northampton is quite far from London but its quite frightening especially since Mrs Kong was in the area just a couple of weeks ago. Everyone has been expecting something like this to happen but when it does, it is still a shock.

And being the brave souls that we are, Mr & Mrs Kong are going down to London tomorrow to catch a show & have lunch & dinner with a few friends. Don't really want to think about the dangers and really if we thought about what could potentially happen, we would never get past the front door.

It does make you think about how in a moment, your life could be gone & how much you should appreciate what you have.

So, we are going to London & will take as much care as we can & enjoy ourselves. Will post more when we return.

Stay safe everyone.

Sunflowers and Mrs Kong's broken camera

Its exactly a week now, since the back of Mrs Kong's camera has gone bust. the Nikon F80 will now not shut properly unless made to close with brute force.

Here is an example of what it used to do before the relevant parts went to Camera Heaven. All donations welcomed to the "Save Mrs Kong's Camera Appeal".

Driving Theory Test

Well, we're going to take our UK driving theory test tomorrow. Even though we've both driven for over 10 years in Malaysia & elsewhere! Also took our first driving lessons here this week, a really strange experience as it feels like going back in time.

Been really hitting the books & cramming. Mrs Kong isn't used to this last minute studying, especially for the car maintenance questions.

Lucky she's married to the last-minute-study King! - Mr Kong!

Anyway, we think we are prepared so fingers crossed, we will pass with flying colours tomorrow. Wish us luck!

Yong Tau Foo

Tonight, we tried making some Yong Tau Foo. To be exact, Yong Lat Chiu (Stuffed Chillis) - got the fish (Coley fish, not really Tenggiri) & chillies from Morrisons Supermarket.

The fish paste that I made looked pretty authentic but a bit too flaky & not 'rubbery' enough but boy, were the chillies HOT!

We almost died. Mrs Kong gave up after one bite & my head almost exploded. Eyes, nose, forehead, lips & brain were watering... I think we've been away from Malaysia a little too long...

Pics below:

The result – head explosion!

Our house, Northampton

Here are some pictures of the house we are renting at the moment. It is very central, opposite a park & very near a supermarket so that's good. On the other hand, it is a little... British & shall we say conservatively decorated. Anyway, here are the pics:

Our wonderful living room... note the fireplace...
